Most activewear brands in this region start the same way: a logo printed on a stock tee. It works for a launch. It does not build a label. The gap between “branded merch” and a real collection is private label production — owning the fit, the fabric, the finish, and the name on the neck.
This guide explains how private label sportswear works in the UAE, the two routes open to you, and what each costs in time and money. Blanklines is a Dubai-based supplier of premium blanks and a private label partner to gyms, studios and apparel brands across the GCC. We will be straight with you about what is fast, what is not, and where the money goes.
What “Private Label Sportswear” Actually Means
Private label means the product is made to your specification and sold under your brand. You control the design, the labelling and the positioning. The supplier handles sourcing and production.
It is worth separating three terms that get used interchangeably:
- White label — a ready-made product that several brands can buy and rebrand. Fast, low risk, low differentiation. We cover this in White Label Activewear Dubai.
- Private label — a product built to your brief: your fits, your fabrics, your trims. More control, more lead time.
- OEM fitness clothing — the same idea, taken to the pattern level. You supply the design and specification; production is made from scratch.
If you are still deciding which model fits your stage, start with Private Label vs White Label Activewear, then come back here for the build.
The short version: white label gets you to market. Private label builds something a customer cannot buy anywhere else.
Two Routes to a Private Label Collection in the UAE
There is no single “private label” process. There are two, and the right one depends on your budget, your timeline and how distinct you need the product to be.
Route 1 — Private Label on Premium Blanks
You take an existing premium blank and make it yours: custom neck labels, branded tags, custom packaging, and your choice of print or embroidery. The garment construction stays as-is; everything around it becomes your brand.
This is the fastest way to launch a credible label. Minimums are low, because the blanks already exist — you can start small and scale what sells. It suits gyms, studios, run clubs and first-season brands who need quality and speed without a large upfront commitment. Browse what is available in All Activewear and Mens Activewear to see the base range.
Route 2 — Full Custom Production (OEM)
You build the garment from the pattern up: custom fit and grading, your choice of fabric and GSM, bespoke trims, cut-and-sew construction. This is custom activewear manufacturing in the UAE in the full sense — and Blanklines manages the production network so you deal with one supplier, not ten factories.
This route gives you a product nobody else can sell. It carries higher minimums and a longer timeline because patterns are cut, samples are approved and bulk is run to order. It suits established brands ready to own their fit and scale a signature range. The groundwork happens in our Bespoke Design & Production service.
| Route 1: Brand on Blanks | Route 2: Full Custom (OEM) | |
|---|---|---|
| What’s custom | Labels, tags, packaging, decoration | Pattern, fit, fabric, trims, everything |
| Minimums | Low — start small | Higher — per style and colour |
| Lead time | Days to ~2 weeks | ~6–12 weeks including sampling |
| Best for | Launches, gyms, first seasons | Established brands, signature fits |
| Differentiation | Moderate | Maximum |
A lot of brands run both: Route 1 for core staples that sell year-round, Route 2 for the hero pieces that define the label.
From Concept to Collection — The Process
Whichever route you take, a custom collection moves through the same stages. Knowing them upfront keeps the project on schedule.
- Brief. Define the product, the audience and the budget. What are you making, for whom, and at what price point? A clear brief is the single biggest driver of a smooth project.
- Design and tech pack. Your designs are turned into a production-ready specification — measurements, fabrics, colours, trims and decoration. No design team in-house? Our Design Studio handles this stage.
- Fabric and blank selection. Choose the base fabric and weight. This decision sets the feel and the price more than any other — see our GSM guide and best fabrics for activewear.
- Sampling. A physical sample is produced and reviewed. You check fit, fabric, colour and construction, then request adjustments. Most collections go through one or two sample rounds.
- Approval. You sign off the final sample. This becomes the standard bulk is measured against.
- Bulk production. The full run is produced, decorated with your branding, and quality-checked against the approved sample.
- Delivery. Finished goods are delivered, ready to sell. Across the UAE this is fast; GCC and international shipping is arranged per order.
You can see how we structure this end to end on our How It Works page.
What Drives Cost in Custom Activewear Manufacturing
There is no single price for private label sportswear because no two collections are the same. Five factors move the number:
- Fabric and GSM. Heavier, technical and sustainable fabrics cost more. A 300 GSM heavyweight tee is a different input cost to a 180 GSM everyday tee.
- Construction complexity. Panels, zips, pockets, flatlock seams and bonded finishes all add labour.
- Decoration. Embroidery, screen print, DTG and puff print each price differently. Our print methods guide breaks down which suits which garment.
- Order quantity. Unit cost falls as volume rises. The first 50 pieces always cost more per unit than the next 500.
- Sampling. Custom samples carry a one-off cost before bulk. It is the cheapest insurance you will buy — approving a sample protects the whole run.
The honest guidance: tell us your target retail price and your quantity, and we will work backwards to a fabric and construction spec that protects your margin. Pricing is quoted in AED per piece against your final spec.
Minimums, Timelines and What to Expect
Realistic expectations keep a launch on track.
Minimums. Route 1 (brand on existing blanks) starts low — you can build a small, tight first drop without committing to hundreds of units. Route 2 (full custom) carries minimums per style and colourway, because patterns and fabric are committed to your order. If low minimums are critical to your stage, read Low MOQ Activewear Dubai before you plan quantities.
Timelines. Branding existing blanks can be turned around in days to a couple of weeks. A full custom collection typically runs six to twelve weeks from approved tech pack to delivered bulk, with sampling the variable. Build a buffer; fabric lead times and sample rounds are where calendars slip.
Quality. Every order is checked against the approved sample before it ships. Consistency across a run is what separates a supplier from a marketplace.
Why Brands Across the GCC Choose Blanklines
Private label only works if the partner behind it is reliable. Blanklines supplies premium blanks Dubai brands build on, and runs custom production through a single point of contact.
What that means in practice: one supplier across blanks, branding and bespoke production. A Dubai base with fast UAE delivery and GCC reach. A studio that can take you from sketch to tech pack if you do not have a design team. Fifty-plus styles across activewear and streetwear as a starting point, and the network to build beyond them. Brands like Mayweather Boxing + Fitness, OneFit and N2Fitness already kit out their teams and members through us.
We are a supplier and a production partner — not a print shop with a catalogue. That is the difference between merch and a brand.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is private label sportswear?
Private label sportswear is activewear made to your specification and sold under your own brand. You control the design, fit, fabric and labelling; the supplier handles sourcing and production. It sits between buying generic stock and running your own factory.
What is the difference between private label and white label sportswear?
White label is a ready-made product that several brands can buy and rebrand — fast and low cost, but shared. Private label is built to your brief, so the product is unique to you. White label gets you to market quickly; private label builds long-term differentiation.
What is the minimum order for private label sportswear in the UAE?
It depends on the route. Branding existing premium blanks with your labels and decoration can start at low minimums. Full custom production, where patterns and fabric are made to order, carries higher minimums per style and colour. Tell us your quantity and we will confirm what is possible.
How long does it take to produce a custom activewear collection?
Branding existing blanks can take days to about two weeks. A full custom collection typically takes six to twelve weeks from approved tech pack to delivered bulk, with sampling as the main variable.
Can I order samples before committing to a full production run?
Yes. Sampling is a standard stage of custom production. You review fit, fabric, colour and construction on a physical sample, request adjustments, and approve a final version before bulk begins.
Do I need my own designs, or can Blanklines help?
Both work. If you have designs and a tech pack, we move straight to sourcing and sampling. If you do not, our Design Studio takes you from concept to a production-ready specification.
